Elderberry Syrup strengthens the immune system and builds defences.
Part of the children’s Magic Forest Range is the lovely Elderberry Syrup. It contains a blend of herbs naturopathically designed to help bolster your child’s immune system and help them recover from illness.
It’s easy to take for kids – give thanks to the sweetness of the syrup – and still going to do them a lot of good.
You Will Need:
4 cups of water
1/2 cup of sweeter – maple syrup (if under 12 months of age) or honey (if over 12 months of age). Add a little at a time until its just the right sweetness for your little one.
- Place 4 cups of water in a saucepan. Add packet of herbs/spices and bring to the boil.
- Immediately, turn the heat down low and let simmer for 30 minutes or until fluid is reduced by half (500ml).
- Strain herbs and compost them.
- Let decoction cool to room temperature.
- Add enough honey/maple syrup to taste. Refrigerate.
**This can last up to 6 months depending on how much honey has been used as it acts as a preservative.
Adults: 1 tablespoon daily
9-12 months: 2.5ml
1-2 years: 4ml
2-5 years: 5ml
5-12 years: 6.5ml
12 plus years: normal adult dose unless child is particularly small
FOR AN EXTRA BOOST
Take recommended amount of our Elderberry Syrup every 2-3 hours until symptoms subside.
Tis Elderberry season at the moment in Central Victoria – perfect time of the year to make icy poles!
Just tweak the recipe to double the liquid you start with so you end up with 1 litre of liquid. The footy herbs and berries have a lot of love to give so there is no reason why you wouldn’t add more water and make a second batch. It won’t be as strong but will still be wonderful for supporting our immune system.
