The origins of smudging ae lost in the mists of time, but it’s certain that ancient cultures right across the world have used the smoke from sacred herbs to protect and cleanse. Originally, it may have been purely practical, as our ancestors discovered that driving their livestock through smoke would kill off a host of pests, preventing diseases.
