Homeopathy is a therapeutic system that has been used for over 200 years. The term “homeopathy” comes from the Greek word, “homeo“, meaning similar, and “pathos“, meaning suffering or disease. WHO (World Health Organization) recognised it as the second largest therapeutic system in the world.

Samuel Hahneman, a German physician, developed homeopathy. It may be defined as the therapeutic method of symptom-similarity but the recognition of this law was there even before Hahnemann. Paracelus, Hippocrates, and ancient ayurvedic texts have also mentioned this law of therapy.

Homeopathy is based on two principles: first, being ‘like cures like’. In other words, a substance taken in small amounts will cure the same symptoms it causes if it were taken in large amounts. The second principle is that only the ‘minimum dose’ should be employed is based on the understanding that the stimulus of the medicine works from within the vitality and is not imposed from the outside. Only enough is given to initiate the healing process, which it then carries on by itself.
