Description
Chickweed is one of the most common herbs worldwide, partly because it is a weed. Originating in Europe, this herb has been naturalised throughout most of the world. It has been used for soothing skin and healing wounds.
The high vitamin C content of this herb meant that some sailors would preserve it in vinegar and use it on long voyages to help prevent scurvy. It was also added to salads, stews, and soups. Native Americans used it to help in the treatment of colds, coughs, and sore throats.
It has a slightly tangy grassy taste but it overall rather bland. The energetics of this herb is moistening, cooling, and diffusive; which is reflected in its treatment of wounds that are hot, swollen, and inflamed.
